Hi There,

Can you believe it's May already?

Summer's just around the corner, but your sales don't have to fall flat. The article below shows how one discussion led to multiple sales, and tells you how you can create more discussions like that to increase sales in your business.

Also, we have several programs in May that can help jump-start your sales:

1.  Consumer Products Companies - Gift Guide Editors Share How to Get Holiday Gift Guide Publicity

This past December, I got one of my clients featured in O (Oprah) Magazine’s gift guide. The client was able to attribute well over $10,000 in sales in December to that one placement. One business owner I know attributed over a million dollars in sales from an O Magazine gift guide placement.

You may not know that May is when we start our active pitching for holiday gift guide placements, because many top magazines have six or seven month lead times, and stop accepting submissions at the end of May.

On May 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. Eastern, Gift Guide Editors, Amy Bates Stumpf of the Gift List, and I will be sharing tips on how to get great holiday gift guide placements in top media outlets. If you can't attend it live, I will be taping it for audio download, and creating an electronic transcript.

Gift Guide and Product Editors from top media outlets including Good Housekeeping, Woman's World and more will be sharing tips and answering your questions (note: these media folks have confirmed, but occasionally drop out at the last minute due to the demands of the media). Tentatively confirmed are folks from O Magazine and AARP.

While this teleseminar can be worth thousands of dollars to you, you can get the Early Bird price of only $49, if you register by 5 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. After that, the price goes up to $99. Sign up here: http://tinyurl.com/ckoowv.

2. Sales jump-start sessions:

In 2008 I had the highest sales and profits in my eight years of business. I'm not saying that to brag. I'm saying it because I get tired of people blaming the economy and everything else for crummy sales.

If your sales aren't where you want them to be, let me help. I love helping people get more sales - quickly, through very specific marketing and P.R. techniques - with a sales jump-start session.

This past week I had a terrific sales jump-start session with a business owner. She left feeling energized, with specific activities that would help her jump-start her sales immediately.

I can do these sessions over the phone, or in person. Although I have had many of these sessions with business owners, and offer a money-back guarantee, no one has ever asked for his/her money back.

And while these are not as inexpensive as my Do-it-Yourself Public Relations products, they are an incredible value, especially since I have a special going until May 13, 2009. Just email or call me if you're interested in this, thanks. If you email me, put "Strategy" in the Subject Line to info@zfpr.com so I get it quickly (I get 500+ emails a day, folks).

Yours in Success,

P.R. Tips to Grow Your Business

One Discussion Leads to Multiple Sales

We talk to people all the time, in personal and business situations. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to take part in a discussion that led to multiple sales -- for each of the businesses that were included in the discussion.

First, let me tell you about the discussion, then I'll tell you how you can generate more discussions like this for your business.

It was lunchtime, on a field trip for my daughter. Five parents were sitting at their own picnic table. One parent said, "That fruit salad looks great. How did you make it?" The other parent said, "I didn't. I got it at Juice 'n Java, the healthy restaurant in Mission Bay Plaza." Several parents mentioned that they didn't know about it, and would like to try it.

Then I said, "Has anyone been to Western Beef yet?" No one had, and asked me what it was. I hadn't even been yet, but was excited to go to this low-cost supermarket, which several people were now interested in going to, based on my description.

Then we started talking about Flip video cameras, and several parents wanted to know more.

I'm sure we discussed other things, but that's what I can remember. How many times have you had off-the-cuff discussions with people, and didn't realize you were a part of the P.R. process? Wouldn't you like more people talking about you and your business?

Here are some ways to generate discussions about your business:

  • Give 'em something to talk about. Make sure people have a reason to talk about you and your business. Did you win an award, get a new client, launch a new product or service, get an amazing publicity placement, do something charitable, offer consistently good products or services, or help someone out?

  • Have personal discussions with people. It's really easy to rely on email and written communications, but there’s nothing like a phone call or one-on-one meeting to really connect with people and share information. This leads to a deeper level of communication, and makes it more likely that people will remember and share your information

  • Speak well of other people's products and services. While you'll tell others about your achievements, of course, you should also be recommending great products or services often. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it will generate more positive discussions about you and your products and services.

So get people talking about your business, and watch your sales soar!
