Template for Social Media Press Release

The folks at SHIFT Communications have created a new kind of press release — a social media press release.  You can see the template here.

I’ve seen this before, and I wonder.  Has any business out there used this template for an actual press release?  Are there any media folks out there who have seen releases like this and do you like this better than traditional press releases or pitches?

    Hi Margie,

    We have released South Africa’s first social media release for Standard Bank’s sponsorship of the Pro20 Cricket Tournament - which is similar to the template from Shift.

    It supports all the other online social and mobile media that we have put together for them, like the Facebook Group, Twitter feed, YouTube channel and the Pro20 blog, as well as mobile IM community interaction.

    The response has been fantastic from both bloggers and online media. Some traditional media have also picked up on it.

    Something that we are enjoying is updating the functionality/layout we have developed for it from the feedback received from site visitors.
