Thoughts on the Women in Charge Conference Sponsored by Entrepreneur Magazine and AMEX

Posted February 1, 2008 by Margie Zable Fisher

Last Tuesday I attended the Women in Charge conference in

Miami Beach, FL.  I was also a speaker on a panel.

I’ve attended many conferences over the years, and I really enjoyed this one.  Here’s why:

  • It was free – and included lunch and goodie bag!
  • I got to meet some awesome folks from Entrepreneur – not only lots of editors and reporters from Entrepreneur Magazine and entrepreneur.com (most of whom I’ve spoken with over the years but never met), but we got to pitch story ideas to them!  I also got to meet the booker from MSN’s your business, who was covering the event
  • I made some great contacts – for potential clients and strategic alliances
  • The Woman of the Year and speaker, Katrina Markoff from Vosges Haut-Chocolat, was incredibly inspiring
  • A quick speech by the new (and first female) mayor of Miami Beach, Matti Herrera-Bower, was also really inspiring

Here are a few things I would have liked to have seen:

  • Some of those Vosges Haut-Chocolat chocolates in the goodie bags – not just because I like chocolate, but because it would have been a terrific Public Relations opportunity for Vosges Haut-Chocolat
  • Information on the Plum Card by AMEX – at this conference I hardly saw any selling from AMEX, which was nice, but I actually think it would have been appropriate
  • Shorter sessions, so I could have attended more

All in all, though, this was a great conference, and I’m looking forward to next year’s conference.

    Hi Margie,
I handle the public relations for Vosges Haut-Chocolat. I loved reading your recap of the event. I am curious about your goodie bag. We provided 300 chocolate bars to go in the gift bags and catalogs. Did yours not have any?
Let me know as I would like to send you some.

    Best,

    HI Margie,
I attended the Women in Charge conference in Miami and I agree with you, it was great! I thought it was a great opportunity to meet other business owners, be inspired and find out what other women are doing. I was amazed that there were women that had traveled all the way from Hawaii & Washington State! I agree with you that the seminars were a bit long and it only allowed me to attend 2 seminars when I would have liked to attend at least four of them. I attended the Internet Marketing seminar with Catherine Seda and she was terrific, tons of great information that I’ve already implemented into my online business. I also attended the Building Wealth, but I was dissappointed with the seminar since I think the leader concentrated too much on real estate and building wealth with real estate investing, and that was not an area of interest to me.
Also, I have to agree with Natalie Markoff in that there was a nice big chocolate bar in the goodie bag I received and my husband and I devoured it in one sitting! With a nice glass of milk, of course!
It was a great conference, I felt very inspired during and after it was over. I was thrilled to get the opportunity to pitch my product and company to the Entrepreneur editors, and the response was very positive. I highly recommend this conference and plan on attending next year.

    Natalie,

I didn’t get any chocolate and of course I’d like some. I’ll e-mail you offline with my contact info, thanks!

I attended the Women in Charge conference in Miami and I enjoyed it a lot. I met people who gave me great info that will definately help me with my baking business, and I gave good info as well. I wish that I was able to attend more seminars but other than that I had a great time. The chocolate bar was delicious!!!

I wonder why there was not a directory of attendees made available for networking purposes.
