Why I Decided to Put Google AdSense on theprsite.com
Posted July 5, 2007 by Margie Zable FisherI have gotten lots of terrific feedback on the update of my Web site, www.theprsite.com.
However, one new addition caused several negative comments. And that was the addition of Google AdSense ads (for those of you who don’t know what this is - they are Google pay-per-click ads that you can list on your site, and get a portion of the click revenue).
One comment was that Google AdSense ads cheapen the overall feel of the site. Another piece of feedback was that I should be careful, since these ads mean that I am listing the competition on my site.
I understand both concerns. So I figured I’d explain why I put the ads on my site.
First, I already have lots of experience and have spent plenty of money paying for pay-per-click ads. And for a while now I have been hearing how people make money with AdSense ads.
What sealed the deal for me was reading about Markus Frind of plentyoffish.com, on Guy Kawasaki’s blog. Markus makes $5-6 million a year from Google ads on his site. Here’s the post: http://blog.guykawasaki.com/2007/06/no-plan-no-capi.html
My favorite two words are “passive revenue” and that’s what Google AdSense ads offer on a site. Granted, you still have to find ways to get traffic to your site, which isn’t a passive endeavor, but once people get there, there’s much more of an opportunity to get that passive revenue.
Ultimately, the potential of lots of passive revenue was more important to me than worrying about a bit of a cheaper look or competition taking away business (I don’t believe in competition anyway).
So that’s why I have AdSense ads on my site.
Interesting points - I may have to look into adding this on my site also - does it work on blog sites, I wonder?
