Where Was the Media Training?
Posted March 5, 2007 by Margie Zable FisherLast week, the Today Show featured the author of a book on hospitality. I don’t want to give the book’s name, because the author mentioned it himself so many times that it drove me crazy, and I don’t want to give him any more publicity by mentioning it.
This was a top executive. Where was the media training? Mentioning your book’s name throughout a major TV interview is a definite no-no. Not only does it turn off viewers, but it turns off the hosts of the show. And that may prevent that author from getting another segment on the show in the future.
The host will almost always mention the book title before the segment and after the segment (which happened in this case). That should have given the author his fill of publicity.
So remember — when you’re publicizing your book on TV, don’t use the title throughout your conversations.
